How to get to Aranjuez from Madrid

Aranjuez is about 48 km south of Madrid and makes for a very easy day trip. There are several ways to get there; the train is the most convenient.

By Cercanías commuter train (line C-3)

The simplest option. The C-3 Cercanías line connects Madrid (Atocha, Sol, Chamartín) with Aranjuez in about 45 minutes, with frequent departures throughout the day. From Aranjuez station, the palace is a 10–15 minute walk. Ideal if you'd rather not drive.

On the Strawberry Train (historic experience)

In spring and autumn, on weekends, the famous Strawberry Train runs: a historic train with period carriages, hosts in traditional costume and a tasting of Aranjuez strawberries on board. It usually includes transport and often admission to monuments. You must book in advance as it sells out. It's the most special way to visit the Royal Site.

By car

Via the A-4 motorway (towards Andalusia), taking the Aranjuez exit; the trip takes about 40–50 minutes depending on traffic. There are parking areas near the palace and gardens, though on weekends and holidays they fill up quickly: arrive early.

By bus

Intercity bus lines connect Madrid (Méndez Álvaro / Estación Sur interchange) with Aranjuez. It usually takes a little longer than the train and depends on traffic leaving Madrid.

Final tip

If you go independently by train, buy your palace ticket or guided tour in advance to avoid wasting time at the box office, especially in high season and on weekends.
