Aranjuez and Toledo in one day
Combining Aranjuez and Toledo in one day is possible by car (they're half an hour apart), but tight by public transport. If you'd prefer a relaxed day, Aranjuez and Chinchón are much closer and are better enjoyed together.
Is it a good idea to combine them?
Aranjuez and Toledo are two of the most popular trips south of Madrid, and many people wonder whether they fit into a single day. The short answer: yes by car, in a rush by public transport. Both deserve time, so the key is to set expectations and start early.

This page is informational. There is no combined Aranjuez–Toledo ticket; each visit is arranged separately.
How to fit both in a day
If you go by car, the plan works reasonably well:
- Morning in Aranjuez: arrive at opening (10:00), tour the palace interior and take a walk through the gardens.
- Midday: a quick lunch and a half-hour transfer to Toledo.
- Afternoon in Toledo: cathedral, old town and viewpoints before heading back.
By public transport it's more complicated: the direct connection between the two cities is limited and you almost always have to go via Madrid, which eats up much of the day. If you don't have a car, the most comfortable option is to give each city its own day.
A more comfortable alternative: Aranjuez and Chinchón
If what you want is a relaxed, well-paced day trip, Aranjuez and Chinchón are the ideal combination: they're much closer to each other than Aranjuez and Toledo, and together they make a perfect plan of Royal Site + charming town with its famous Plaza Mayor. Without the rush that adding Toledo imposes.
