Aranjuez in spring
Spring is, without question, the best time to visit Aranjuez. The gardens burst into bloom, asparagus and strawberry season arrives, the Strawberry Train starts running and the weather is perfect for walking. If you can choose when to go, aim for March to June: the Royal Site shows itself at its finest, just as the royal court once enjoyed it.
Why spring is the best season
Aranjuez was conceived as the kings' spring residence, and for good reason: it is when the whole estate looks its most splendid. The woodland turns green again, the fountains and parterres fill with colour, and the climate — neither the winter cold nor the extreme summer heat of the Castilian meseta — is ideal for exploring the gardens and monuments on foot.
What to do in Aranjuez in spring
- Gardens in bloom: the Island Garden, the Parterre and Prince's Garden at their very best.
- Asparagus and strawberry season: the Aranjuez market garden at its peak. See where to eat.
- Strawberry Train: runs from 22 March to 7 June 2026.
- Tagus river outings: boat rides or kayaking in fine weather.
Month by month
| March | Strawberry Train starts; first warm days and gardens coming back to life. |
|---|---|
| April | Gardens in full bloom; a great month for photos. |
| May | Peak strawberry and asparagus season; the star month (and the busiest). |
| June | Last ideal weeks before the summer heat sets in. |
Tips
- Book the guided tour in advance: it's high season.
- Go in the morning and combine palace + gardens + a traditional lunch.
- Weekdays are less crowded than weekends.
