Best time to visit Aranjuez
Spring is the best time to visit Aranjuez: the gardens are in bloom and the weather is ideal. On weekdays first thing (opening at 10:00) there are fewer people and better light. Avoid the August heat and the free-entry Sunday afternoons.
The best season: spring
Aranjuez was conceived as the kings' spring residence, and that's when it shows itself at its finest. Between March and June the gardens burst into bloom, the woodland turns green again and the weather — neither the winter cold nor the extreme heat of the Castilian summer — is perfect for strolling among fountains and monuments. If you can choose when to go, pick this season: we cover it in detail in our guide to Aranjuez in spring.
Autumn is the second-best option: mild temperatures, fewer crowds than in May and gardens in warm tones.
Season by season
| Spring (Mar–Jun) | The best. Gardens in bloom, ideal weather, strawberry and asparagus season. Busier in May. |
|---|---|
| Summer (Jul–Aug) | Castilian heat, especially in August. Visit first thing and seek the shade of the gardens. |
| Autumn (Sep–Nov) | A great option: pleasant weather, fewer queues and gardens in autumn colour. |
| Winter (Dec–Feb) | Quiet and queue-free, but gardens without blooms and short days. Ideal for focusing on the palace interior. |
Best day and hour to avoid crowds
To enjoy Aranjuez at a relaxed pace, the trick is when within the day:
- Weekdays are far quieter than weekends.
- First thing, right at opening (10:00), you'll find fewer groups and the best light for photos.
- Avoid Sunday afternoons: the free-entry slot (Wednesdays and Sundays from 15:00 to 19:00/18:00) brings queues and full capacity.
- Remember the palace closes on Mondays; the gardens open daily.

The summer heat
July and, above all, August bring high temperatures. It's not the worst time if you plan ahead: get up early, visit the palace interior first thing and save the shadiest gardens — such as the Island Garden — for the sunniest hours.
Secure your visit in the best season
In high season it's worth booking ahead. Buy your ticket or choose the guided tour with admission included and skip the line.

At Ticket Visit we've visited Aranjuez across different seasons and cross-checked opening times and crowd levels against the official sources. Here are our tips for picking the right date.
- April and May, with the gardens in bloom, are the best. Spring transforms everything: that's when the Prince's Garden and the Island Garden look their most spectacular.
- Autumn is golden and quiet. October and November turn the gardens ochre and bring far fewer people than spring: a very comfortable alternative.
- Avoid the August heat at midday. In high summer, leave your garden stroll for early morning or sunset and take shelter in the Island Garden, the shadiest one.
- Weekday mornings are quietest; Sunday afternoons fill up. The palace's free slot (Wed and Sun, 15:00) draws big crowds: arrive early if you plan to use it.
